Impelled by a desire to give a fillip to floriculture and nursery industry, India's only magazine of its kind, Floriculture Today has been giving annual awards to those serving and promoting this cause. The awards are meant to enthuse and encourage those who have made special contributions to a sector, which is a set to make a big leap forward and blaze a new trail in augmenting income and employment to the rural masses.
This year's awards, presented at the concluded function at 4th international Flora Expo 2008, introduced some new catagories like lifetime achivement award, recognition for women entrepreneuer and special awards for floral designing. The lifetime achievement award is a recognition to the commitment and dedication of those who serve as a beacon light to everyone engaged in this industry and allied activities. Among other things, floral designing deserves special credit since this centries-old art is blossoming into a profitable segment, incorporating new styles and ideas to suit changing tastes and trends in modern living. it is also in the fitness of things that against the backdrop of the key role of Floriculture in women's empowerment there is full evidence of it in the north-eastern region and elsewhere a special award has been instituted to honour women enterpreneurs. The awards were given away by Union Agriculture Secretary T.Nanda Kumar, Chief Guest of the Function.
